Kitchen Tips from Tanya Ferriero

Wash your fruits & veggies!  Even if you don't eat the peel you have to cut through it to get to the part you eat. The best time to do it is when you bring them home from the store.  You're more likely to eat them if they are already clean when you want them (except strawberries and mushrooms - wash when ready to use as they are porous, retain water, and would spoil more quickly if wet).  To clean: Run a sink full of cool water.  Add 1/4 cup salt & 1/4 cup white vinegar, soak while you put your other groceries away (salt removes dirt & impurities, vinegar strips off any pesticide residue-you'll be amazed at what's in the bottom of the sink when you finish). Empty sink, rinse, allow to air dry or towel dry an put away.
